Workshop Description

Have you always wanted to learn to paint with oils? This is the best way to do it! Introduction to Oil Painting is a 3-session course designed to introduce you to the foundations of oil painting. You will master color theory and color mixing, and have the confidence to paint with oils using various methods like underpainting and glazing. By the end of the 3 sessions, you will have created your very own oil painting, and have the tools and knowledge you need to continue working with oils. Working from direct observation and photographs, you’ll complete exercises to learn how to mix any color, how to set up a palette and choose materials, and how to paint with foundational principles like “fat over lean”/”dark before light” rules, underpainting, layering, and brush techniques. Over the 3 sessions, you'll get hands-on instruction at every turn and get to watch yourself & classmates develop your skills in a welcoming and encouraging community. All materials are provided. No experience necessary – beginners encouraged! **If you cannot make class on either the 18th or 25th, Atelier Dalal can offer a make-up class – you can sign up and email us at atelierdalal.bk@gmail.com to arrange.**
