Workshop Description

*Designed for those who have already completed the workshop Tatreez & The Art of Resistance –– once you complete that class, you can take this one! Learn how to stitch tatreez motifs onto any fabric using waste canvas. This workshop led by Palestinian-American artist Sabri Sundos focuses on the application of tatreez onto everyday fabrics. Attendees will learn how to apply tatreez and how to remove waste canvas from fabric. All materials will be provided to embroider onto pencil cases. By learning this method, you can open up endless possibilities for your creative tatreez work, from decorating clothing to embroidering on home textiles. — What is waste canvas? Waste canvas is a grid-like fabric you place over your clothing or textile, stitch through, and then remove, so only your cross-stitch remains on the final piece.

About your instructor

Sabri

Sabri Sundos is a Palestinian American painter & textile artist. Rooted in his personal experience being raised in the diaspora, Sundos explores themes of identity, labor and time. Through the merging of traditional craft and cultural iconography his work emphasizes the importance of agency & human touch, highlighting the inherent tactile nature of art-making as a means of reclaiming and preserving heritage. Sundos creates work that continues to foster dialogue around tradition, memory, and an undying hope for the future. He is also the founder of Unibrow Sun, an organization focused on uplifting narratives of solidarity through art & education.

What can I expect from a workshop at Atelier Dalal?

Our studio is dedicated to the exchange of heritage, stories, and craft.

Workshops are small and hands-on, emphasizing educational instruction on an extensive range of art forms and their history. Our instructors provide 1on1 instruction and guidance during the workshop, and all introductory courses are beginner-friendly.

You will always leave one of our workshops with something you made, plus the knowledge to keep exploring at home.

Tickets for this event are non-refundable, so please double-check your calendar before booking! if you're unable to attend, you're welcome to pass your ticket along to a friend—just have them check in under your name!
